The Hickman Co Chamber of Commerce hosts this event which pays tribute to Grinder’s Switch, the home of Minnie Pearl. This event features music throughout the day consisting of local and out of town talent, individual singers and bands. Local organizations and food vendors provide a wide variety of food from hamburgers and hot dogs to southern pork barbeque and smoked chicken. Booths feature local artisians – wood carvers, local made pottery, artists, handmade jewelry, wood crafters, stain glass art and much more. This event begins at 9am and ends at midnight. Make plans now to attend and enjoy a day of great music, food and local art in the home of Minnie Pearl. |

Invitation for Volunteers |
By BRAD MARTIN Chamber President
As the crowd began to flock to River Park on July 4 for fireworks, everything was looking good, or so I thought until Tony McCord flagged me down.
“We’re going to have a problem with parking,” he said.
I asked Jimmy Sisk to come with me for a few minutes . . . and about 90 minutes later, with more impromptu help from Chief Bill Jackson and Lt. Kirk Maddux of the Shady Grove Volunteer Fire Department, as well as Keith and Judy Matlock – already volunteering their Matlock Trash Service for the day – we had shoehorned as many in as we could. Mayor Bob Bohn opened up an extra section or folks would have been parking as far away as the Square. (Maybe they did!)
The event was a great one – but the parking episode reminded me again how dependent the Chamber’s success is upon volunteers.
