The year 2009 has been a year of constant change in technology, business, personal life, and Chamber activities. Staying on a positive path has been a struggle for a lot of people. The months have passed by quickly and as we reflect on our accomplishments, it seems a worthwhile endeavor to put it to paper.
The Hickman County Chamber of Commerce accomplishments for 2009 are as follows:
January
Development of 3 new postcards promoting tourism representing Centerville, Hickman County, and Minnie Pearl. The postcards were distributed to 6 sites throughout the county for sale. The contest involved community participation.
- Winner in Centerville category: Michael Furlong
- Winner in Minnie Pearl category: Peggy McCoy
- Winner in Hickman County Category: Rhonda Foley.
February
The Chamber
- Sponsored the annual Law & Safety Luncheon recognizing 12 entities of Emergency Services Personnel.
- Donated pea gravel for the Buford McCord Memorial Park playground.
March
The Chamber
- Sponsored the Great American Clean-up contest for one month where 23.4 tons of litter were collected.
- Unveiled a hand-drawn sketch of Charlie Garner by local artist and teacher Pam Clark. The Chamber created prints, both signed and unsigned, for sale to support the Charlie Garner Memorial Scholarship Fund.
- Participated in the ground-breaking for the Three Rivers Community Health Hickman.
April
The Chamber
- Sponsored the first Roast Event for the Charlie Garner Memorial Scholarship Fund. Neil Jobe was the roasted long time community leader.
- Scheduled a Wildflower Tour with Wildlife Officer David Anderson, a local biologist recognized for his expertise in local flora.
- Held a ribbon cutting at Simply Pink
- Held a ribbon Cutting at Open House of Studio D
May
The Chamber
- Held a ribbon cutting at Coble Country Store
- Developed tour maps covering 6 routes through Hickman County.
- Held a ribbon cutting at the remodeled Fred’s Store
June
The Chamber
- Traveled to Macon County for 3 Star process visit including the communities of Lafayette and Red Boiling Springs
July
The Chamber
- Held its annual membership dinner meeting and presented the Citizen of the Year Award to Mike Smithson
- Conducted its annual retreat for planning by Chamber Board of Directors
August

- Held a ribbon cutting Four Seasons Outdoor Sports
September
The Chamber
- Sponsored the Grinders Switch Music & Arts Festival
October
The Chamber
- Held a ribbon cutting at Three Rivers Community Health Hickman
- Held a ribbon cutting at Pam’s Tea Room
- Helped plan and coordinate the Halloween Festival on the Centerville Town Square
- Began the update of its Internet-Website
November
The Chamber
- Presented four welcome gift baskets to Colonel Peterman, Sgt, Major Sanchez and two military aides for their participation in the Veterans Day Service.
December
The Chamber
- Will hold its annual Christmas Membership Dinner on December 15 at the Farm House Restaurant to present the Boss of the Year Award.
- Distributes toy train sets to children who meet Santa on the Santa Train sponsored by South Central Tennessee Railroad
