The year 2011 is proving to be a busy one--a productive year for the Hickman County Chamber of Commerce. An entergetic board of directors has been the key. We have new campaigns designed to help local businesses. We're continuing to build our celebrations and festivals. And we honor those in the community who work hard. Below are some of our activities in the second quarter of 2011:
April 2011
Chamber Membership luncheon was held at Coble Country Store. Members continue to be encouraged to shop local and are rewarded by a door prize drawing taken from local shopping receipts. The guest speaker for this meeting was Faye Rogers from USDA. She discussed resources and programs that are available in Hickman County.
150 registration forms have been mailed out to prospective participants for this year's Grinder's Switch Music and Arts Festival. The Festival will be held on Sept. 10, 2011 on the historic Centerville Square.
On April 9th, 2011, the Chamber sponsored a business fair held at the Centerville Municipal Airport. The Chamber also held a bake sale in order to raise much needed funds for Chamber activities.
April 30th, 20011 the Chamber sponsored a County Wide Clean-Up. The ROTC and other volunteers collected approximately 1 ton of trash from our local roadways.
Grinder's Switch Foundation continues to restructure and develop a business plan.
May 2011
Monthly membership meeting was held at Breece's Cafe with approximately 50 members and guests in attendance. The main topic of discussion was flood recovery as this was the one year anniversary of last year's historic flood. 77 members have renewed their chamber membership and 7 new members have been added to the roster. Some chamber members have been visiting neighboring communities to gather tourism ideas. These ideas were shared with those in attendance. Chamber began requesting donations for the Fourth of July Fireworks event. Planning and preparations related to the upcoming Grinder's Switch Music and Arts Festival continue.
A workshop was hosted on May 9th by the Buffalo River RC&D called "Internet Rural Tourism Marketing".
The Grinder's Switch Foundation and Historic Downtown Centerville continue to collaborate on the Courthouse refurbishment project.
National Council on Aging has provided the Chamber with a person to work 20 hours per week.
June 2011
The monthly membership meeting was held at Pleasantville Market. It was announced that 4 new members to the board will be added in July. They are Marshall Carothers of MLEC, Chris Hughes of Four Seasons, Dodi Lovett of Studio D, and Micah Tidwell of Sonic.
